Hey, I'm David and I'm seventeen. I just love having people to comment/be commented by, and making new friends. If you love Glee/Harry Potter, it's a plus! My goal is to read one hundred books in the New Year, and I have a new-found Beatles obsession. Also, I love accents. :D

: oh he's a loaded gun but isn't everybody? :

I officially swear by Zicam.. just a little bit has me feeling better. Yes, that stuff is damned expensive, but OH SO WORTH IT, I just have that awkward stuffiness right now.

I have discovered a perfume that I absolutely must have. Harajuku G, it's like a japanese coconut smell (seriously I don't know what a japanese coconut would smell like, but with a name like Harajuku, I assume that would be what they were going for.) They have a bottle of it in a gift set cheap for 20 dollars, and I may just pick it up. Really it smells really nice and I only have a lonely bottle of Curve that I rarely use.

I'm off for the next couple of nights. HURRAH!

And now for some worthy holiday cheer )

That was definitely relevant to my interests, how about you?

Which reminds me, I need to get off my arse and one day make that Mythos icon that I want from Princess Tutu. Yes, the image DID remind me of that series.

Sick.

Just a cold but it's the kind that lands me in bed off and on for most of the day. I'm just so tired. In between playing not-mindless-enough games on one of my pet sites because there's a daily play limit which doesn't roll over and I want the money. I have to think more than I do foraging but a) time, b) this is the busiest time of day for foraging, and c) they just released a new craftable Plush so everyone's madly trying to get all the components for it. If I'm awake tonight I'll have a go then.

There are some things I am not good at. And will never be good at. So I am just going to stop. Not worth the effort or the angst over failure.

Hello! I'm Jessica, I live in Massachusetts, and I'm 19. I'm a vegan atheist, but I don't impose my beliefs on other people; I'd hate it if someone did that to me. In fact, I rarely talk about religion. My philosophy is, "live and let live." Gay guys are my best friends. But don't think that because I'm an atheist I have no morals or values; honesty is the most important thing in any type relationship. I'm loyal to my friends and I hate liars and backstabbers. I try my best not to be superficial.

I'm a dancer. I especially love ballet and hip hop. I also love listening to hip hop, e.g. Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, Immortal Technique, and The Roots. I also love madlibs, HTML, goosebumps (the feeling, not the books), snow, texting, nostalgia, and hello kitty.

Sometimes people misjudge me, but those people are missing out!

I try to comment as much as I can, but even if I can't think of anything to say, I still read my friends page.

Mr. Plow

Good morning, snow bunnies and snow men! I'll be back online after lunch to announced the winner of the My Big Ten Inch contest. In the meantime, I have an unexpected bonus contest to offer you. Rules and prize are the same.

Contest Two: DELTA's Acronymical "don't expect luggage to arrive" Sweepstakes
Bill made it home, but his suitcase did not. Your job is to guess the day, hour and minute (specify a.m. or p.m.) that some poor schlub fights their way from the Newport News, VA airport to our house and delivers it. To help you guess, read the cut part of this post and you will get a fair idea of the distance involved and the likely road conditions.

Bill actually got in the air and made it home on time last night. That fact put me on the roads at the height of the blizzard/ice storm/downpour. I think it's fair to say I have passed my shitty weather advanced driving test. )

Snowpocalypse Soon

Virginia is in full panic mode about the s-word (snow) today. According to the weathermen, and the airlines who keep cancelling my husband's flights as he tries to get home, we're going to be buried in the white stuff by tomorrow. Now in most places, snow is of no big concern, but we in the South take great pride in our dedication to panicking if a single white flake descends fro the sky. Therefore, I'm having a contest.

Contest Part One: My Big Ten Inch
Reply with your guess as to how much snow (in inches) is in my front yard by 12 p.m. 12/19. Whoever comes closest (over or under doesn't matter) will win a surprise giftie bag.

Tie Breaker: Planes, Trains, & Automobiles
Guess which airport my husband will get stranded in tonight. The possible candidates as of this posting are: Columbus, OH -- Atlanta, GA

And by the way, our drive-in movie theater is open tonight, despite the impending doom. Gotta love that. Damn shame they're showing that hideous movie Elf.

I need to find more 100x100 icon brushes, because I have a Marie/Allelujah icon that just won't be perfect until I've found the right brush. -_- Will have to save this for my next day off unless I magically get up early enough to actually do thorough hardcore searching.

(for all of you curious, I do not ship exclusively male/male.. I also do not ship exclusively male/female. I just ship whatever it is that I damn well feel like *I do like me some Alle/Halle selfcest too though.. mmmmhmmmm good)

Also, I adore myself some girl/girl (which means that I'll probably be getting into that new yuri anime sooner rather then later.)

Google Alert Leads to Family Trivia

I have a google alert set that looks for any mention of my "pro" blog which contains my hardcore genealogy research. Yesterday, due to a serendipitous match of keywords, I was made aware that one of my step-grandaunts passed away at the age of 104. I followed the link to her obituary and hit a bit of a jackpot in the daily life department. Whoever wrote her obituary was extremely detailed, to say the least!

When the deceased was 12, her mother became the third wife of my great-grandfather. I now know more about what his farm was like from passages like these:

"When Bamie was twelve, her mother remarried and they moved to a home just off Sanger Road. Bamie was up at 4 a.m. to do her farm chores – which included milking the cows and feeding the chickens after which she walked two miles to school. Walking home from school found her ready to go with her mother on a three to four mile walk to Prudence and Harvey carrying such things as buttermilk, butter, garden produce, rhubarb and sometimes chickens to sell in the coal camps."

"She remembered well Armistice Day, November 11, 1918. She was sitting on a rail fence resting from digging potatoes when she heard the church bells ringing, mine whistles blowing and horns blaring. The war had ended!"

So, this is another great lesson not to overlook the records of tangentially-related people when researching your direct line. You might discover little gems like what vegetables grew in the garden. :-)
